At this price-point, it is a great bike for any rider. The Giant Fathom 2 offers a great level of components matched with a trail-ready geometry. This makes it much easier to get into an aggressive position when descending while still being able to put down the power on the flat and in the climbs.
I'm pretty sure other eBikes already have this 2 button sequence for the walk-assist mode. A great trickle-down upgrade for the Fathom 2 is the Giant Contact Switch Dropper seat post. I guess it's just a safety feature to keep the walk-assist from being accidentally activated (although it's never happened to me). If you wait longer than 3 seconds, the UP button reverts back to its original function to scroll up on the power modes. However within 3 seconds, if you press the large UP button - that is now what activates the walk-assist function. Now it's a two button affair - press the WALK side-button first, but nothing will happen (except the LED lights starts flirting with you, haha).
The Crest 34 is pitched at hardtails and full suspension bikes under the three grand mark. Giant isn’t aiming for the high-end of the market. That bike currently specs a Suntour fork, but later in the year we’ll see that switch to the Crest 34. The only difference (improvement?) that I can tell, is in the ' walk-assist mode' - where previously I could just press the WALK side-button and it would go. According to Giant Australia, we’ll first see the Crest 34 on the 2020 Giant Fathom 29 2. The Giant diagnostic procedure apparently automatically updates the firmware with NO option to decline, so my Trance is now on version 20190924000 (mine was previously 20180729000 same a what some of you guys have mentioned). I did however wanted a full electrical diagnostic to see if everything is how it should be. I opted out of the mechanical servicing (even though the first one is free), because I do my own maintenance checks and adjustments - and I didn't want them to fiddle with my OCD set-up.
